It starts in Chicago — at least I saw the sign

I was staying with cousins out in the western burbs so I got a head start heading out on Rt 66. And there began all the wonderful nostalgia.

The nostalgia is there, and has been for years. People have saved old gas stations, old advertising “Giants” (and refurbished them), marked off history and added art. And this was just in the first part of Illinois.

Damn its flat out here

This is what the road looked like back in the 20’s-30’s. Not exactly the most comfortable ride, especially in those old cars. However, it was much better than the dirt roads it replaced. There was a whole Highway Improvement movement in the 20’s as more cars were on the road and they got stuck in mud and sand.
